Crisis Respite Nursery
The Crisis Respite Nursery is designed to provide a safe, homelike environment where parents can bring their children during times of stress. The primary purpose of the Nursery is child abuse prevention. Examples of possible reasons for using the nursery include: medical emergencies, financial stress, family violence, divorce, lack of parenting skills, and previous abuse issues. The Nursery is not designed for use as a daycare while parents are at work or in school.
The Crisis Respite Nursery is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and provides care free of charge for children ages 0-11. The Nursery serves children in the Utah, Wasatch, Summit, Juab and Millard Counties. Unfortunately, the nursery cannot take children with severe physical, medical, or mental disabilities.
Crisis Care
Crisis situations can vary and are judged on a case-by-case basis. In crisis
situations, the nursery asks that you call ahead, if possible. After regular
business hours and on weekends, there is an on-call worker available for emergencies.
The following is a list of some of the crisis situations that are common.
- Children at risk for abuse or neglect
- Children who have witnessed domestic violence
- Medical emergencies
- Parents who are experiencing a mental or physical health crisis
- Serious accidents including car accidents, fires, floods, etc.
- Death of a family member or close friend
- Homelessness
In addition to crisis services, the nursery offers parents time-out breaks. These breaks are known as respite nursery care and are provided during regular nursery hours from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Monday - Friday and from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Saturdays. Time-out breaks are limited to three hours once per week. If more time is needed, the Nursery Coordinator will need to approve it. Parents can use this time for whatever they choose. It is often helpful for parents to have a little time to themselves they can look forward to each week.
For time-out breaks and appointments, you must call in advance to schedule a time. Nursery slots fill up quickly, so the sooner you make an appointment the better.
To schedule time in the Nursery, please call our Nursery Coordinator, Jill Weiser at (801) 229-1181.
